green building articles : recycling - "Recycling"

By: Clean Energy Ideas

Recycling is a key ingredient for the fight against climate change. Many people are unaware of how much of an impact recycling can have on the environment.

There are many reasons why recycling is important, with the main two been; the reduction in energy needed to produce a product from recycled goods than the original resources, and the reduced burden placed upon landfill sites.

Energy saving is a key ingredient for the fight against climate change, and the process of recycling saves a great deal of electricity.

An example of the energy savings involved can be seen when recycling paper. It is said that between 30 - 70% of the energy needed to produce paper from trees can be saved when producing paper from old paper products.

The more we recycle, the more we can help current landfill sites. Not only do landfills harm the environment, and cause visual pollution, they are a significant source of methane. This methane is released from some products such as paper during the rotting phase.

Many scientists agree that the two most threatening gases which are probably the main cause for climate change are carbon dioxide and methane. Not only are the high levels of methane harmful to the environment, they pose a significant safety threat due to explosion.

The slogan "reduce reuse recycle" is some of the best advice for anyone wishing to help the environment and the fight against climate change.

The recycling logo has been introduced to packaging to allow consumers an easy way of identifying a recyclable product. The logo is also sometimes used to show a percentage, which relates to how much recycled material the product contains.

In some scenarios, the process of recycling can help to conserve the natural resources of the earth.

A common misconception regarding the above statement is many people believe that by recycling paper products, we will save trees. This is not the case, as the majority of paper manufacturers grow their own trees, and plant new trees as old ones are cut down. The recycling of large timber products is one of the ways to save trees.

Recycling is easy, and more people should begin to see the benefits of this process, and the positive impact it will have for our earth.
